AOL digs for gold in spammer’s parent’s house

gold.jpg AOL is trying to retrieve a massive amount of gold and platinum bars from the property of a convicted spammer’s parents. AOL was awarded a $12.8 million judgment against Davis Hawke in 2005, who sent over 130,000 spam emails to AOL subscribers in 2004.

AOL said it had evidence that half a million dollars of gold and platinum bars are buried or otherwise located at Hawke’s parents’ home in Medfield, Massachusetts and is seeking the right to recover those assets. (I guess Davis must have bought into those Monex commercials.) The plans are to invest that money back into spam-fighting efforts by the company.

In a twist of irony, AOL gave a major contribution to the world of web spam last week by releasing massive amounts of personal search data that is currently being used to create enormous networks of spammy websites. With the recent reports of spyware and other spam-related results being turned up by Google’s search results, its even more important to make sure your computer is protected. You might want to scan your PC.
