What happened to Sunrocket VOIP service?

Many of Sunrockets VOIP service’s 200,000 subscribers found out about Sunrocket’s demise the hard way – their phone service just stopped working – with no advance warning. The company went out of business and left every single customer stranded.

Packet8 was selected as the default provider through a deal with Sunrocket. However, many subscribers were wary of signing up with another company they had not heard about, especially since they are presumably taking a financial loss by taking over Sunrocket’s old customer base.

So now what?

If you are a Sunrocket customer who’s been affected, you have some options. Two good alternatives to check out are Verizon FIOS bundled service (best deal if available in your area) or VOIP.com who are currently offering a Free Month Trial.

Angry at Sunrocket?

If you’re one of the customer’s who was affected by Sunrocket’s action, leave what you have to say in the comments.

The Bush adminsitration for years has maintained a link between al-Qaida and Saddam Hussein and have paralleled them when referring to “The War on Terror”. Another part of the same report concluded that information obtained from the Iraqi National Congress, which was used to support the intelligence assessments in Iraq, were false.

The Democrats have criticized the President and the Cabinet for deliberately misleading the public about the supposed link and using faulty intelligence to justify the war in Iraq and America’s continued involvement there.

Paris Hilton was arrested in Hollywood around 1am today for driving under the influence. Her breathalyzer test allegedly showed a .08, which is the limit for a DUI in California.

At least she didn’t say anything anti-semitic like Mr. Gibson after his drunk driving arrest earlier this summer. She claims that she was speeding to go get a burger at the In-N-Out (they do make awesome burgers), after having one margarita following a long day of shooting a music video and attending a charity event. Apparently when you weight 65 pounds, one drink will get you drunk.

Paris and her publicist both tried to disimiss the incident as not that big a deal, saying the police were just trying to make a statement. It remains to be seen if the Los Angeles DA files any charges.

Earlier today George Bush acknowledged the existence of secret CIA prisons that have been the source of tension between American and international critics and the Bush administration over the past few months. Among the detainees are Khalid Sheik Mohammed (Al Qaida’s #3) and Ramzi Binalshibh (a would-be Sept. 11 hijacker).

To justify the existence of the secret prisons, Bush was quoted as saying:

“It has been necessary to move these individuals to an environment where they can be held secretly, questioned by experts and, when appropriate, prosecuted for terrorist acts. These are dangerous men, with unparalleled knowledge about terrorist networks and their plans of new attacks. The security of our nation and the lives of our citizens depend on our ability to learn what these terrorists know.”

The claim that thousands of prisoners have been held was rebuked by a senior administration official – they only number in the hundreds – the people who are apparently not protected under the Geneva conventions, have never been given a fair trial, or are in any other way given the rights that any other civilized nation would extend to even the most hated of criminals.

Tragically, a stingray pierced his heart with a serrated venomous tail barb while he was swimming. The video shows Irwin pulling the barb out of his chest before he loses consciousness.

Irwin was known to wrestle crocodiles and handle venomous snakes, but this news came as a great surprise to millions who are now mourning a wonderful personality and a heroic wildlife conservationist. Over the years, Irwin fought for animal conservationism and put his own life at risk to educate others about numerous wildlife issues. He is survived by his wife Terri, daughter Bindi (8) and son Robert (2).

Please help support the legacy of Irwin by donating to Wildlife Warriors. Crikey, Steve, we’ll all miss you.

The plan is to cut down 25% of CO2 emissions by the year 2020.

Many European nations applauded this news. The United States has been notoriously slow in adopting emissions standards. Bush and the administration have argued that cutting back on greenhouse gases will hurt the American economy. This move by California is seen as a bold step to take regional responsibility and blaze the way to higher environmental standards in the face of the Bush administration.

Universal Music Group, one of the world’s largest music labels, announced that it has reached an agreement with SpiralFrog that will let the company offer free mp3 downloads of its licensed music later this year. The internet community has been fighting with music labels for years to get free music downloads. While this finally marks an important cornerstone for the online music industry, it’s not as rosy as the headlines make it out to appear.

There really is no such thing as free lunch, or free mps3’s for that matter, since the service is planned to show ads to users as they download the music. It will also make users login each month to validate their previously downloaded music. One of the biggest drawbacks will be that people will not be able to burn CD’s or download the music to their iPod, which accounts for 70% of the portable mp3 market.

Me? Until they come out with something that doesn’t include DRM, or is overly restictive, I’m going to stick with CD’s – no restrictions, can be downloaded to your iPod, and have much better music quality. Plus there’s good ways to get CD’s at $5.99 apiece.

The Trust for America’s Health released a new report today with some shocking figures about America’s fat epidemic: 31 states hit record obesity levels with 30% of American’s now considered obese. If you combine that with the number of Americans who are overweight (but not obese) the figure shows that 64 percent of America is fat!

Looking at the figures, there is a direct correlation between poverty and obesity. The poorest states – Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia, Louisiana and Kentucky – also have the highest obesity nationwide. The root causes cited are (surprise, surprise) a lack of exercise and poor nutrition. Getting chased by a bear and him stealing your pick-a-nick basket (like in Colorado): healthy. Eating a McSaturatedFat Sandwich while sitting in your rocking chair (like in Mississippi): unhealthy.

The Trust for America’s Health is charged with detailing state obesity rates and government programs meant to fight the epidemic. Most experts agree that the problem is so pervasive throughout our society and culture, that its unlikely to improve unless some drastic steps are taken by both the government and individuals themselves.

If you’re American and you’re reading this: put down that snickers bar and do yourself a favor: get some nutritious food! Here’s something to get you started – A free week of healthy delicious food with Nutrisystem.

The storm is projected to strengthen into a hurricane after it passes over Cuba and strike Florida late Tuesday or early Wednesday. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting hurricane-strength winds of 85 miles per hour.

Florida governor Jeb Bush ordered the Keys to evacuate in anticipation of the storm and said that officials are planning for a Category 2 hurricane. The space shuttle launch was scrubbed.

The Cuban government took serious precautions for the storm to minimize damage and casualties on the island – arguably a much better job of preparedness than FEMA’s last year’s efforts in the states. Today is the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
