Schwarzenegger Approves Global Warming Fight
Arnold Schwarzenegger approved a plan to make California the first state to impose restrictions on carbon dioxide emissions and to offer incentives to reduce them. The plan is to cut down 25% of CO2 emissions by the year 2020.
Many European nations applauded this news. The United States has been notoriously slow in adopting emissions standards. Bush and the administration have argued that cutting back on greenhouse gases will hurt the American economy. This move by California is seen as a bold step to take regional responsibility and blaze the way to higher environmental standards in the face of the Bush administration.
